The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit

"And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever--the Spirit of truth."
John 14:16

When Jesus was on the earth, His presence was experienced by only small groups of people at one time. He did not have the luxury of the mega-churches of today, or the modern technology to reach millions of people like we do today. This is why, all down through the ages since Christ, we have the Holy Spirit, that can lead and guide us to God. The other "Counselor" referred to in the scripture above is the Holy Spirit. The apostle Paul wrote, "Do you not know...that the Spirit of God dwells in you." 1st Corinthians 3:16 The Holy Spirit is given to every believer, to lead and guide them through all the temptations that Satan will bring to bear in their life. We have this Holy Spirit at all times in our heart, not just for a limited time, but forever. Without this Counselor in our heart, we would be in deep trouble, as Satan would easily be in control of our hearts, and would lead us on the paths of destruction. The Holy Spirit is our protector, our conscience, and whispers in our ears, through gentle whispers, the encouragement and wisdom that keep us from falling prey to Satan and his evil schemes. The Holy Spirit is there to give us all the gifts of the spirit that the Bible promises in the book of Galatians "love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control." The Holy Spirit is God's gift to you, and you will never have more of it than you can have today. Why don't you accept God's free gift today, and let it begin to work in your life, as it can give you peace, and the ability to withstand Satan's fiercest attacks.

Share God's Love

Share God's Love

"They are from the world and therefore speak from the view point of the world, and the world listens to them."
1st John 4:5

We live in a society today, that is of the world and where Satan is running rampant, and through his temptation is leading people astray, and away from Jesus. Christian's are in the world, and yet they must not be absorbed in the world, and led away from the godly values of God's Holy word. Sadly however, I am afraid that so many people are compromising their values, by wanting to fit into the many prevalent social groups, and are compromising their values and being conformed to the worldly ways of these groups . God does not want us to conform to the world, but wants us to conform to Him by the renewing of our minds. In the Bible we see that Jesus dined with publicans and sinners, but He did not allow their social groups to overwhelm Him and conform Him to their ways. Instead, He used every opportunity to present the spiritual truth of God's Word to them, and many were conformed and turned their lives over to Christ. Our social contacts should not only be pleasant, but they should provide us the opportunity to share the saving grace of Jesus and also our faith. Today, you will have many opportunities to share your faith, and let others see the presence of Jesus in your own life. You may be the only chance they will ever have, to know what a personal relationship with God can be like. Take the time, with all the people you meet today, to share Jesus with them. Let your light shine brightly, and demonstrate by your speech, your actions and your peace, that there is something they are missing in their lives. Let them sense the warmth of Christ's presence through you.

God's In Crowd

God's In Crowd
"Therefore whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew 18:4

In our world today, people seek popularity and praise more than at any other time in our history. Being in the "in crowd" seems to be the thing that so many of the younger generation strive for, as they want to be accepted. Being accepted, by itself is not a bad thing, however, it can be a very dangerous thing as well. Trying to fit in with the "in crowd" can turn them from God, if the "in crowd" has values that are not godly values. Trying to fit in with others can lead them away from God, without them even being aware of it, making us like those in Jesus' day who "loved the praise of men more than the praise of God." John 12:43 It is so easy when things go well in our lives to lose our perspective. If wanting to please others, and have praise bestowed on us becomes our main focus, instead of having a passion to please Christ, we can be lead to destructive behavior and actions, that will lead us away from our primary mission, which is to make Christ number one in our lives. If you are struggling today, with wanting to fit in with the lifestyles of others, I want you to step back and evaluate and consider, if these are really the lifestyles you want to follow. Remember, you want to follow the lifestyles that God gives you in the Bible, as these are the ones that are important. You don't have to conform to the lifestyles of this world, but the only ones you need to conform to are God's lifestyles. When you follow God's standards, He will enrich all your circumstances, and you will not be concerned and worry about what others think. You will be content with whatever your situations are, and will have peace and comfort knowing that you are in God's "in crowd" which is all that matters.

Jesus Is Our Defense

Jesus Is Your Defense

"There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known."
Luke 12:2

This is such an important scripture, that every Christian should embrace in their everyday lives. We should live our lives as if Jesus was watching us every minute, as He really is, but so many don't realize this. Jesus is all knowing, and sees our actions all throughout our day, and knows all our thoughts. In our society today, there is hardly any where we go anymore, where we are not captured on security cameras. The banks, grocery stores, department stores, and now even many of the streets have security cameras, that capture all our actions and movements. God has been capturing all our activities and our thoughts, ever since we were born. He knows all about us, and one day all of our life history will be laid at our feet, as He will judge us on all of our life activities. Nothing will be concealed, as every aspect of our life will be revealed, and we will be held accountable. We will then be judged, and either found guilty, or not guilty of being the kind of person God wanted us to be. The sad reality is that everyone will be found guilty, as none of us will be found worthy, and pass God's test. The only chance we will have is to have been forgiven by Jesus, who will be our only defense. Jesus will come to our rescue, only if we have invited Him to defend us. He is the only one that can save us from Hell, but we have to ask Him to come into our hearts. He is the only one that can wipe our slates clean, and remove all the blemishes from our life history, so that when God looks at our record there will not be any stain. Unless you ask Jesus to defend you, it will be hopeless. Jesus is your only hope, so call on Him today, before it is too late, to save you from Hell.

God Provides All Our Needs

God Provides All Our Needs

"Then the eyes of those who see will no longer be closed, and the ears of those who hear will listen."
Isaiah 32:3

In the Book of Isaiah, God is encouraging His people, to give them comfort and the promise of what their future might hold. During this time the people of Israel lived near the desert, and were constantly battling the elements, of wind, dust and the hot and cold seasons of the year. Many times they would become upset with their plight, and complain and grumble almost constantly about things that was not going right. This seems to have been the situation of the people of Israel all during their history, as even when they were being led out of Egypt, they were constantly complaining and grumbling. This can also be said about our generation today, as people are still not satisfied with their plight, and are still complaining and grumbling. There is never enough money to do the things we want to do or buy. There is never enough time to do all the things we want to do. There is always something that if we could just own this one more thing, that would make our life more pleasurable or enjoyable. God tells us throughout the Bible that He will provide all that we need, and He demonstrated this to the people of Israel many times as He provided them food and water during their times in the desert. He protected them repeatedly from their enemies. He showed them time and time again that He would take care of them. God also tells us the same thing that He will always take care of us and meet our needs, but we are not satisfied. Today, I want you to quit complaining and grumbling, and begin to thank God for all that you have, as God is providing all that you need.

God's Gift

God's Gift

"Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon."
Isaiah 55:7

Our society today, is based on wealth and material possessions and money. Everything has a price tag, and people spend all their life and time working and striving to buy as much as they can, and to fulfill their wants and desires, which is never enough. The main focus of their lives is to accumulate as much material possessions as they can afford, which they hope will give them peace and joy, and make them feel fulfilled. However, we so often miss all the free things in life, and take them for granted. There is no price tag on the air that we breathe, the clouds in the sky, the stars at night, the rain, the rainbows, the trees, the grass, the lakes and oceans, the animals, the birds and all the other wonderful creations that God has given us. All of these are free, and is God's gift, without any payment or money required. But God's most precious, and greatest free gift to all of us is His gift of our salvation, and the one that He wants us to have the most. However, many find this gift hard to accept. Why would this be, as it was freely given, and God wants so much for us to receive this gift, that He was willing to even sacrifice His son so we could have it. We don't have to do anything to accept this gift, as it doesn't cost us anything, all we have to do is say "God, I want this gift." Even the angels in heaven will shout for joy and sing praises if you will accept this free gift from God, and you will never be the same again. Accept God's free gift today and He will even throw in a bonus gift of an eternal life.

Your Conscience

Your Conscience

"Cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God."
Hebrews 9:14

I have always believed that one of the ways God reveals himself to us in through the conscience. I have heard our conscience described as being the light of the soul, which is what it really is. As Christian's we know what is right from wrong, and when we are tempted to do wrongful things, our conscience will convict us. We know when we lie, we know when we steal, we know when we are prideful, we know when we don't forgive, we know when we are angry, as we know when we do all things that are not pleasing to God, as our conscience will convict us during these times. Our conscience will steer us away from evil and toward good, as it can be our gentlest teacher and friend if we listen to it. However, most people don't listen to their conscience, when it convicts them, and makes them aware of what they are about to do, as it can become our worst enemies. However, your conscience can be dulled and darkened by sin, and lose its effectiveness, when you don't listen to it. When you consistently make a habit of some form of sin in your daily life, and become accustomed to it, your conscience will gradually become silent. On the other hand persistent attention to your conscience, will keep you traveling on the right paths, as God will speak to you and sharpen your conscience even more, as you will become more sensitive and attentive to His word. Your conscience can keep you out of moral and spiritual danger if you listen to what it says. Your conscience is God's lamp within your heart.

God's Plan For Peace

God's Plan For Peace

"And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
Isaiah 9:6

When God send His son Jesus to the world to die for our sins, He sent a peacemaker, as God's plan for peace was Jesus, as He called Him the Prince of Peace. However, the world has rejected God's plan. There are wars that are going on each day in our lives, that ravage us with worry, stress, and pressures that destroy our peace. We have rejected God's plan for peace, as "Out of the heart--comes evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, and evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness." Mark 7:21-22 This is quite a list, as our real war is a rebellion against the commands of what God wants for us, and therefore it brings us misery and trouble in our daily lives. We need to realize that this is why God sent Jesus, as He wants us to stop our rebellion and be at peace. When Jesus died for our sins, He provided the way for us to be reconciled with God, and have peace in our life. When we have peace with God, we will have peace in our heart, and peace with each other. If you are struggling today, with problems and trials, and you are not at peace, but are just getting by, trying to deal with all these things by yourself, take a few moments to ask Jesus to come into your heart, and give you peace. When you repent of your sins and receive Christ as your Savior, your wars will be over, and your life will be peaceful, as God will extend His peace upon you, and take away all the cares you have, and carry them for you. God's plan for peace is Jesus.

Don't Worry Anymore

Don't Worry Anymore

"As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him."
Psalm 103:13

As a child we rely on our parents for everything. Children spend very little time worrying about their food, what they will wear, where they will sleep, or anything else, as they expect that their parents will be there to meet and take care of all their needs. They assume--and they have a right to--that their parents will provide everything that they need. As Christians we should expect these same things for ourselves, as God made a promise, that He will supply all our needs. "Do not worry, saying, what shall we eat, or what shall we drink, or what shall we wear. But seek first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added to you." Matthew 6:31-33 As Christians, we should take God at His word, but so often we don't, as most people have worry ingrained into their thoughts and minds. We don't trust God for our needs, and rely upon ourselves and our abilities to produce what we have, and so often we worry. You need to realize that if you are a child of God, He is responsible for your welfare. That is why you should be casting all your cares on Him, instead of spending your time worrying about your own situations. "Cast all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you." 1st Peter 5-7 Today, I would like to encourage you to take God's promise and believe it and claim it. Let God do the worrying, let Him take the burdens--don't give it a thought--leave it to Him. Never forget that God is bigger than your problems. So whatever problems or worries are pressing on you today, put them in God's hands, and leave them there.

True Christian Virtues

True Christian Virtues

"If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him."
John 14:23

Throughout my life, I have seen people go to church on Sunday, and are the most loving, kind, always smiling and pleasant people to be around, that I could hope for. They were the example of people that you wanted to know and have as your friends. However, I have also seen these same people in their work places, their schools and in their neighborhoods be a completely different person, who were harsh, bitter, angry, never having a smile on their faces, and not being the example I wanted to pattern myself after. This is what I call the "Sunday Morning Christian." I believe the acid test for any Christian is how they live when they are away from the church. How you act with your friends, your coworkers, your classmates, your neighbors, and all others you come into contact with, defines you as a true Christian. How you live around others, not just at church on Sunday, is the defining characteristic of how God wants each of us to live our lives. Our family, our friends and our neighbors see us as we really are. They see us when we are tired, stressful, sick, worried and under pressure. If you are a true Christian, you will not give way during these times to bad temper, impatience, faultfinding, sarcasm, unkindness, selfishness or laziness. Instead each day you will display the fruits of the Spirit which is "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." How different would your life be if you consistently practiced these Christian virtues?

My Mountaintop

My Mountaintop

"Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies."
Psalm 36:5

As I was growing up, I spent a lot of my time hunting with my grandfather. We would climb the mountains to the very top, where we could overlook the valleys below. Many times, early in the morning, we could look down and see the fog in the valleys below, that seemed like clouds, floating in the air, with the brilliant rays of sunlight shining above them. These were beautiful scenes, and they have been etched and engrained in my mind all these years. It seemed like we were on top of the world, as we couldn't get any higher, but could see everything around us. When I was on these mountain tops with my grandfather, all the cares of the world were forgotten, and everything seemed at peace. This is what I envision heaven to be like, as I will be above all the cares, the hurts, the worries, the struggles, the trials, the pain and all the other things that weigh me down on this earth. They will lay at my feet, and cannot get to me, and destroy my peace and my joy. So often people live deep in the valleys, where the worry, trials and struggles of life keep them mired down, and they see very little hope for the future. They are constantly looking up at their problems, which seem like mountains, with cliffs too steep to climb. When you are in the valleys often you only see the sides of the hills, but can't see the view from the mountaintops. On top of the mountain there is hope, peace, joy and contentment. If you are down in the valley today, there is a mountaintop experience waiting for you. Ask God to help you climb to your mountaintop and experience His love.

God's Joy

God's Joy

"In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed."
1st Peter 1:6-7

This is one of my favorite scriptures in the Bible on joy. It describes what I could call "Supernatural Joy." When you read it, notice the changes that one who knows Jesus, will have as they go from a time of trial to the rewards of having an eternal life with Jesus. Even in trial and adversity we are to be joyful. Jesus said in His Sermon on the Mount, "Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad when you are persecuted", which is the same as to be joyful. We are to be joyful, because we are to trust in God and rely on Him, no matter how hot the fiery trials we are in, actually are. While in prison, the apostle Paul could have become critical and bitter about his circumstances. Rather, he knew that God was in control, and chose instead to express the joy of the Lord when he wrote the book of Philippians. In chapter two Paul takes great joy in the spiritual growth and blessing in the church at Philippi. Instead of focusing on his bad situation and circumstances, he rejoiced over all the things the Lord was doing in His people. This is what "Supernatural Joy" is all about, being able to trust and have faith in God, even during your darkest hours. If you are dealing with trials in your life today, let God provide you with some of His "Supernatural Joy", to get you through your struggles, and be victorious with God by your side.

Guard Your Children

Guard Your Children

"These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children."
Deuteronomy 6:6-7

In today's society all Christian children and teenagers populating our schools, attending our churches, and living in our homes are the targets of Satan's strategy. Satan's goal is to destroy our families and churches by seducing our children away from their parents and from God. There are temptations everywhere you look in society, that is enticing your children away from Christ and the godly values you want for them. The movies, the music, the games, the books, the internet, are all focused on promoting a lifestyle, that is drawing your children further and further away from one that God commands. The peer pressure that your children are surrounded with each day, by other children from broken families, is influencing your children to surrender to the lifestyles of the world instead of godly lifestyles. The scripture shown above tells us to teach God's commands to our children, to impress them upon their hearts at every opportunity, and let them know what good godly values are. You as parents, will have the greatest influence on your children than anyone else, and you must demonstrate to them each day, the kind of godly values that they should follow. You need to walk the talk each day, and be the example for them in all aspects of your life. If you aren't their example, someone else will be, and that someone may not be the godly example. Don't take your responsibilities as a parent lightly, but take them seriously, as your child's future is in your hands and in God's hands.

Love Must Be Sincere

Love Must Be Sincere

"Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good."
Romans 12:9

One of the things I remember when I devoted my heart to God, was the removal of all bitterness and anger from my life, which was replaced with a love I had not known before. All the bitterness and anger I had built up over the years, just began to dissolve and fade away. If we claim to be followers of Christ, and harbor bitterness or hatred in our hearts toward someone, there is something very wrong. The Bible is very plain as it states that if we have hatred in our hearts toward anyone there is something wrong in our spiritual lives. If someone has wronged or hurt you, you must forgive them, love them and pray for them. You are not to take any revenge against them in any way, but to love them with a sincere heart. The reason you are to wipe away any bitterness, is that any bitterness and hatred will do more harm to you, than the person to whom you are directing it. It will eat you up inside, and destroy your life. It will also hinder you building a closer relationship with God. It will, for all practical purposes, act as an obstacle in the relationship God wants to have with you. There is no room for hatred, bitterness. prejudice, or anger against someone, in the heart of a child of God. God wants our love to be honest, sincere, without hypocrisy, and true. If you are holding any bitterness or anger against someone today, ask God to help you release this, to wipe it away and cleanse your heart, to make you free from this chain that keeps you from a closer relationship with Him. Replace this bitterness and anger with the kind of love that God has for you.

Do Not Fear

Do Not Fear

"Say to those with fearful hearts, Be Strong do not fear."
Isaiah 35:4

There seems to be mounting fear in our world today. News about the economy, the war, the credit crisis, job losses, and a host of other things seem to threaten the stability and peace in life we all desire. When Jesus made the statement to His disciples, when the storm came on the boat, "Why are you so fearful", He was addressing a spiritual problem in them. If they overcame this weakness, it would serve them better in the future. Perhaps we should focus on this lesson for ourselves in these uncertain times. The absence of faith, causes fear. With faith, there is no fear. According to the Bible, fear causes "torment" in our mind by distorting the truth about God's promise to care for us in our times of real crisis. Fear is the enemy of the child of God, and must be overcome consistently in life. Faith is the answer to overcoming fear. Your faith in God will develop as you yield to Him, do His will, and begin to establish a closer relationship with Him. The Bible says, "Faith come by hearing the Word of God." As you develop your relationship with God, your faith will grow, as you begin to depend upon Him for all things. When God is in control of all things, your faith will grow exponentially, and your fear will diminish. When you begin to walk in faith, and place all your cares on the shoulders of God, your fear will vanish. When you embrace fully the life of faith that God intends all of His children to walk in, you will enjoy the richness of life that God meant for you. Establish a closer relationship with God today, and let Him take away all your fears.

Just A Little Change

Just A Little Change

"The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
Matthew 13:49-50

With all the busyness of life, I believe many Christians get into a "spiritual rut." They tend to struggle just to get through the day, come home, both mentally and physically drained, because they allow themselves to get into a rut. Take a look at your days activities, as I bet your routine rarely changes. You get up each day, and either go to work or school. You go to the same stores, the same places to play, the same church, watch the same television programs, listen to the same music, and do everything the same way you did it yesterday. I would like to challenge you today to try to do some things different, as it will give you a new perspective on your life, as you might just see something different, that you have not seen before. We all sometimes just need a little change, as most of the time we get into such a comfort zone, that we tap into a very small percentage of what we are capable of doing. Another reason to change things is that it will give you confidence in different situations. The more we experience, the more we are exposed to, the better we are able to handle life's problems. The Lord has given us so much, yet we often only partake of a fraction of what He has given. Don't turn your life upside down by making drastic changes, but keep your life fresh and exciting by just changing your routine just a little. Make a conscious effort to keep your daily walk with God fresh and something you look forward to.

Is God Shaping You

Is God Shaping You

"Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus."
Philippians 2:5

This is one of the most powerful scriptures in the Bible, but tells us the goal we should strive for in our lives. We know that Jesus was perfect, that He never sinned, and that He lived a life that was the extreme example for each of us to strive for. When we look at the attitude of Jesus and see His true heart, this is the true test of the kind of person we need to be, and also tells us how we are to get there. The Bible tells us, "Do not be transformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." Romans 12:2 If you look at our society today, we are not being transformed into the likeness of God, but the world is transforming us to be like the world instead. We have compromised our values so much, just in our generation alone, that we are becoming a worldly nation, instead of a godly nation. The world is transforming and brainwashing us by its advertisements, its conversation, its sexuality, its permissive behavior, and all the other secular philosophies into a worldly nation. We are replacing God's values, and striving to be more like Him, by giving in to the world's values and being more like the world. A simple test to see if you are falling prey to this, is to time yourself the next time you read the Bible and pray. Compare this to the amount of time you spend watching television, surfing the internet, playing video games or other pastimes. Is God getting His share of your time and attention. This simple test will let you know if the world is shaping you, or if God is.

Battling Satan

Battling Satan

"And now dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming."
1st John 2:28

With the birth of Jesus, and His death and resurrection, the decisive battle against Satan and sin was won. Although Satan did his best to defeat Jesus, he did not have the power and might to win against God's overwhelming power. This victory enabled each person to be forgiven of all their sins, by simply asking Jesus to come into their heart. All the past sins, no matter how bad they are, will be forgiven, and each person will be transformed, and become a new creation in Christ. Even though Satan was defeated in the battle, he continues to fight every day, and does everything he can to block God's work, and lead people astray. Be on the lookout for Satan in your daily life, as he is behind the temptations that you face, as he wants you to succumb to his evil plots and schemes, and to do evil. Each day you will do battle against Satan, but God will provide you with His armor, which you will need to withstand Satan's attacks. This daily battle will continue until Christ comes again, and the war will be complete and total victory will be won. He will usher in a new age at this time, in which sin and death will no longer rule, and cruelty and suffering will no longer exist. If you believe in Jesus Christ, your future is assured, as tomorrow belongs to you, and you are just awaiting the Keep your eyes focused on Jesus and live each day as if He was coming back distant trumpet announcing Christ's return. In the meantime let nothing discourage you. tomorrow, as He might be.

Rest In Jesus

Rest In Jesus

"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
Matthew 11:29

During this past summer, Margaret and I took a short vacation, back to our home town in Kentucky. For two or three days before we left we were busy getting things ready to go. The traveling time took about two days getting there and back, and the total time we stayed in Kentucky was 4 days. It then took another day or so for us to rest up from the trip. This reminded me so much of this scripture, as few people know how to rest these days. Even on vacation, most people rush to cram in as much as they can before returning to their jobs, where they spend as much energy catching up on the work and all the other things that have piled up in their absence. Many of us need vacations just to rest from our vacations. This may be because we have been looking for rest in the wrong places. In the scripture above, Jesus said you will find rest in Him. You will also find peace and contentment in Jesus, along with happiness and joy, and so many other things that are indescribable. The hustle and bustle of this life can be overwhelming at times for many people, as there are so many things to do, and very little time to do it in. If you have Jesus in your heart, however, all of this busyness will be taken away, and replaced with the peace and comfort in knowing that God is in control. Jesus provides us with the ultimate rest, to escape the frustration and chaos of the world around us. When you rest in Him you don't have to worry about what lies ahead, as Jesus has taken care of tomorrow.

Just A Little More

Just A Little More

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
Romans 15:13

I recently saw a bumper sticker on a car that said, "All I want is a little more than I have now." This made me think that this statement is so true, as most people spend their entire life working to get just a little more than they have now. There is something that we are always wanting, that we think will bring us just a little more comfort, give us a little more happiness, and make our life just a little more enjoyable. Does this describe you, as you want just a little more than you have now, and if you got it would you be satisfied? I have found in my own life, that the thing I thought I wanted and worked for, and finally got, didn't provide the satisfaction I thought it would. I believe this is one of life's frustrations, as we think we will find satisfaction and fulfillment in the things of this world, but once we get them, they don't bring lasting happiness. We look for love, security, and happiness through our jobs, our possessions, our relationships, but we don't hear many people give their testimonies, stating that their lives are complete, and that they want for nothing. Rather, we see just the opposite, as most people still feel empty, discontented, unhappy, lonely, unsecure, and that they still need a little more. If you think that if you had just a little more than you have now that everything would be ok, you need to develop a better relationship with God. Try putting Christ first in your life, and you will discover that He is the source of the love, peace and joy you have been searching for.

The Miracle Cure

The Miracle Cure

"Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits--who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases."
Psalm 103:2-3

Having spend over 45 years in health care, I have seen diseases take the life of thousands of people in my hospitals, despite the valiant efforts of doctors and the most modern medical technology. Wouldn't it be wonderful if mankind could discover, or invent a medicine that would absolutely cure all disease. But suppose a cure could be found for all of life's diseases. It would cause a worldwide stampede and panic, as everyone would be seeking this cure, and utter mayhem would be prevalent. Disease and Illness existed in the days of Jesus, and although He was all powerful, and could have eradicated all disease, He chose another means to deal with disease. The disease God did choose to eradicate and cure, was the disease of sin. God gave His son Jesus, as a cure for sin. Through Jesus, God cured sin, as all sin can be healed, by simply asking Jesus into your heart. You can receive this miracle cure by asking Jesus for it, and He will give it to you right now, without any question. All the sin, confusion, and disillusionment that you now have, can be replaced with righteousness, joy and hope. You can discover a peace in your life that is not dependent on your current circumstances. This immediate miracle drug has been around for two thousand years, and provided by the chief Physician, Jesus Christ. Your life can be changed, and you can be healed today. Let Jesus give you this cure, forgive you from all your sins, change your life, and make you a new creation, that will last for eternity.

Our Daily Bread

Your Daily Bread

"Give us this day our daily bread."
Matthew 6:11

This scripture is in the middle of the Lord's Prayer, and almost any Christian will recognize it. The disciples had asked Jesus to tell them how they should pray, and the Lord's Prayer were the words He used to show them. This prayer should become part of our daily life, as it covers all the bases as to what we should pray for each day. Today, I want to cover why I think Jesus wants us to pray for our daily bread. This verse, I believe, reminds us that we should be dependent upon God for everything, as He is the giver of every blessing. Many people would say, "Why should I pray for my daily bread? I can take care of my own needs." However, if it wasn't for God's love and grace, you wouldn't have anything, as all that you have comes from God, and it is through Him that you have anything. Don't you think that if God did not want you to have anything, He is powerful enough to take it all away in an instant. God knows all things, so it is by His grace and His love for you, that you have what you have. It is not by your hands that you have even your daily bread, but by His hands. "Every good and perfect gift is from above." James 1:17 God wants you to be aware that everything you need comes from Him. You may think you can do all things yourself, as you are able to provide for yourself, and depend on your own ability, but it is God that allows this. God could strike you down with a sudden illness, a loss of a job, or any other thing where you would not be able to provide even your daily bread. You need to pray this prayer every day, because you need to be reminded to trust God in everything.

The Hands Of Jesus

The Hands Of Jesus

"Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it."
John 20:25

A loving mother who saved her little girl from a burning house suffered severe burns on her hands and arms. When the girl grew older, not knowing how her mother's hands had become so scarred, the girl was ashamed, and always insisted that her mother wear long gloves to cover up the ugliness. One day, when the girl was in her teens, she finally asked her mother how her hands had become so scarred. The mother, for the first time told her the story of how she had saved the daughter's life with those hands. The daughter began weeping tears of gratitude and said, "O, Mother, those are beautiful hands, the most beautiful in the whole world. Don't ever hide them again." The hands of Jesus were also scarred for us that day on Calvary, as He gave much more than His hands for us. He gave His life, so that our sins would be forgiven. So often during our daily life, we don't think of the sacrifice Jesus made that day on the cross for us. To suffer and die the way He did, should make us think about this each day, and we should thank Him each morning for the sacrifice He made. When we see a story such as this about a mother's sacrifice for her children, we know that she was willing to give her life for her daughter, because she loved her. Jesus gave His life for us because He also loved us. Christ's nail-pierced hands are beautiful beyond measure, for they tell us of His love, and His willingness to save us regardless of the cost. The hands of Jesus are beautiful and scarred for you.

Are You Content

Are You Content

"I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances."
Philippians 4:11

Several years ago, I knew a man who was on my board of trustees. He was very wealthy and successful, the envy of all his friends and business associates. He had the big house, the big car, belonged to all the popular civic associations and the country club. Over the years I got to know him very well, and through my talks with him, it was obvious that he was very miserable inside, and that there was something missing in his life. His wealth had not been able to fill the empty place in his heart. I also had another good friend, at this time, who was always happy, with a big smile on his face all the time, that was contented with his place in life. He struggled every month to make ends meet financially, as he worked faithfully at a near minimum wage, to support his family. This man had very little wealth, but was as contented as he could be. He attended church, worshipped God, and even was on the chaplaincy committee at the hospital, and visited our patients regularly each week. When I read the scripture above I was reminded of the contrast between these two men, and convinced that the second man was really the rich man. Although he had very little in the form of material possessions and wealth, he had learned to be thankful for everything that God had given him. Wealth and material possessions does not provide happiness and joy, but the spirit of Jesus in your heart, will provide an abundance of happiness and joy and contentment in your life.

Be A Joyful Giver

Be A Joyful Giver

"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house."
Malachi 3:10

The Biblical formula for giving is an act of worship. It is a way to honor God for His provision in our own life. We need to recognize the fact that all that we own belongs to God, and our giving is a way to show Him that we thank Him for all His blessings, and the things He has given us. It shows God that we are willing to not hoard, covet and hold on to all our wealth, but are willing to give back our first fruits to honor and thank Him. When we give, we are simply giving back to God a portion of what He has entrusted to us. We are to give "according to our ability to give". You can't give what you don't have, but you are to give back to God, your first fruits, and depend upon Him to provide your needs. You may do your budget at the beginning of the month, and say I don't have enough to give to God, as my house payment and electric payments are too much, and I don't have any to give God this month. If you are in this situation, you must cut back on your other expenses, instead of cutting back on giving back to God. Don't give God His money, because you feel guilty, or others expect you to give, but give it for the right reason. You must freely give with a joyful heart, like the widow who gave her last cent. Giving is important, but giving for the right reason is just as important. God will provide your needs, but you must trust Him. We are to give out of our love for God, We are to give because all that we have belongs to God, we are to give with a joyful heart, not out of guilt. God will bless your obedience in giving and your faithfulness.

Preach The Gospel

Preach The Gospel

"He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation."
Mark 16:15

I have a cousin, who is a called minister, who just recently came to my town with his wife, to hold a revival, at the local community center. He came to town at his own expense, because he felt that God had called him to come and preach to the lost people in our community. The revival was not well attended, as the largest attendance at one of his services was only about 18 people. He stated that he felt this was a very successful revival, because he had planted a seed in our community, which given time, would grow. His schedule for the rest of the month was going on to other small towns and hold other revivals, which he said would be very similar to the one he held here. This man is not paid by anyone, but does this full time on his own. The collections taken are not enough to buy his food, his housing, his clothes, or cover the cost of his family's living expense. He depends upon God to provide his needs. His main purpose, and the one that God called him to do, was to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost. The local community center gives out food to the hungry, and every week there are as many as 25 people coming there to get a meal. Many of these people don't know Jesus. There are 125 churches in our small town, but none of them take the time to come each week to preach and minister to these people. These people don't attend a church on Sunday, but are the ones that need to hear about Jesus. I challenge my readers to find community centers in your town, and get involved and preach the gospel of Jesus to these people.

Your Father's House

Your Father's House

"In my father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you.
John 14:2

Life is a long journey for most people as the average life span is now over 70 years. Many people are blessed with a much longer life, while others have their life cut short. We don't know how long we will live, as only God knows what His plan is for us. I recall a story about a little boy who was riding alone on a bus, after visiting his grandparents house for the summer. He was looking out the window, and the scenery was not too interesting. A woman sitting beside him asked, "Are you tired of the long ride." The boy smiled and said, "I'm a little tired, but I don't mind it much. You see, my father will be meeting me when I get there." Sometimes we get tired of all the burdens and troubles of life, as we get so caught up in just dealing with day to day situations, that cause us worry, pain, and stress that seems to constantly surround us. It is difficult to deal with all of this uncertainty, not knowing what the future holds for us from one day to another. The Bible tells us that our life will be full of struggles, and that we are to be contented in all things. Paul tells us that even through all his times of suffering, that he was content, as he knew there was something waiting for him that was better. If you are struggling with problems in your life today, there will be better times ahead for you also. God tells us to not lose heart, as the things of this life are only temporary, but the things which He has for us in the future will be eternal and everlasting. Knowing that we will spend all our eternity with Christ forever, far outweighs our burdens today. Keep your eyes on Christ, and your eternity.

Read Your Bible

Read Your Bibles

"One generation will commend your works to another; they will tell of your mighty acts."
Psalm 145:4

How much time do you spend each day reading your Bible? According to statistics only about 10% of professing Christians have ever read the entire Bible. The Bible is supposed to be our roadmap, our guide, our compass, and our instruction manual, written by God, on how we are to live our life. However, most people don't evidently follow His instructions. Bible scholars tell us that it takes an individual of average reading ability 90 hours to read the entire Bible. That is one hour a day for 3 months, or one half a hour for 6 months, or 15 minutes a day for 12 months. How many things in our lives have we messed up by not reading the instructions. How many marriages have been destroyed because couples have not read their instruction manuals, on what God expects from them in their marriage. How many friendships and relationships have been ruined because people have not read the instruction manual on how to treat others. How much worry, guilt, unforgiveness, bitterness, and anger have you carried around with you, because you have not followed God's instruction manual. I promise you that the time you spend reading the Bible cover to cover will be the most important time of your life. The Bible is the final authority for all the situations that you will ever face in life, as it gives you the wisdom and knowledge of how to deal with everything. How much heartache and pain could have been avoided if people would have only read God's book and followed His instructions. Begin reading it today.

I'm Not Afraid Anymore

I'm Not Afraid Anymore

"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?"
Romans 8:35

So often in life people are afraid. In a world filled with uncertainty, danger, war, economic collapse, health issues, relationship issues or a multitude of other problems, most people are uneasy when they don't know what the future holds, and become afraid. After Jesus was crucified on the cross, He arose on the third day, and came to His disciples in the garden, and said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers." Matthew 28:10 The Bible is full of promises, such as these, telling us to not be afraid, and that God will protect us and provide for us. It tells us that even the birds of the air do not worry about what they will eat or drink, as God will provide all that they need. The Bible also tells us that God knows all our needs, and that He will always provide them. I know that all during my life, I liked to know in advance what was coming, as I wanted to prepare the organizations I worked for, with the advance warning of any dangers, and take the appropriate steps to prepare for any changes that could happen. I have also liked to know what the future held for my family, so I could always provide for them, in all situations. God does not want us to be concerned with the future, as His promises are enough. He wants us to have faith and trust in Him for all things, and not be afraid of what the future might hold. Since I have a closer relationship with God now, the future doesn't scare me anymore. I know that God is there with me, and will take care of me during any situation. I am not afraid because I know that nothing can separate me from the love of Christ.

God's Unending Spring

God's Unending Spring

"For with you is the fountain of life; in your life, we see light."
Psalm 36:9

It is unfortunate that most people get their happiness and joy from the good things in life. As long as everything goes their way, and there are no problems confronting them, they feel happy, but let troubles start to roll in and their happiness and joy fades quickly. When their health fails, a relationship breaks down, they lose their job or some other problem pops up, their joy goes with it. I remember a little spring near my home in Kentucky, where everyone would get water, that never varied its flow of cool, clear water. During floods in the spring, or in the droughts during the summer, the flow of water from this little spring continued its steady continuous flow. This is the kind of peace and joy that we all yearn for, regardless of whether times are good, or when the storm clouds roll in. We would like to have this consistent peace and joy in life, that doesn't vary from season to season, regardless of what is going on around us. Jesus promises us this peace, "but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." John 4:14 If you are struggling with problems in your life that have robbed you of your happiness and joy, you need to seek Jesus, who can calm your storms, even during the most vicious attacks, and give you back your happiness. The Bible tells us that we will experience troubles in life, but just as Jesus did with His disciples on the boat, He can calm the waves. Jesus can also calm your waves, and let you experience the unending spring of God.
