How To Forgive Others

How To Forgive Others

"Father, forgive them, for they know not what they are doing."
Luke 23:34

My friends, the scripture above is the ultimate example of forgiveness, as these were the words of Jesus, just before He died on the cross to forgive us of our sins. I am sure that most of you have been wronged by someone at sometime in your life, and it is even more painful if it was from a friend, a coworker, a schoolmate, or even a family member. Our natural reaction to this hurt is often revenge, anger, bitterness and hate. Many times we protect ourselves by drawing away from the offender, which can lead to isolation from everyone, and we find ourselves exiled into a state of loneliness. Many times we wait for the offender to make things right, but usually this does not happen, as they either don't realize the damage they have done, or they simply don't care. When they don't make things right, the injured party carries the hurt. If you have been hurt by someone, and are having trouble forgiving them, just remember the example that Jesus gives us. When Jesus said "forgive them", his offenders had not asked for forgiveness, as this was not a prerequisite for His forgiveness, as He gave it freely and without asking. Not only did Jesus forgive them, but he also did not hold it against them. When you can release the, anger, bitterness and hate from the hurt you carry inside, you will find that an inner peace will come over you, and you will be free. Don't continue to keep this bundled up inside you, but let it go; forgive the offenders who have hurt you, as God's plan for your life will never come to be, as long as you have this spirit of unforgiveness inside you. Just remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for you, and pass his example on to the offender who has harmed you.
