Open Your Heart

Open Your Heart

"Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you."
Luke 6:27

There was a young man who I promoted to department head of the laboratory, who was such a promising and talented young man, and could have gone far in his profession. However, another department head, wrongfully accused him of falsifying a medical record. This was proven to not be true, and he was exonerated of any wrong doing. The other department head realized that he had wrongfully accused him, and apologized over and over, but his apology was never accepted. However, this one act created so much tension between the two departments, that he was never able to overcome and forgive, and ultimately transferred to a lower job in the hospital. Forgiveness is such a powerful gift from God, that can literally change lives. When we choose to forgive, it opens a door to our heart so that we can receive God's blessings to begin to flow in our own lives. But, when we hold onto unforgiveness, bitterness and resentment, it closes this door and keeps us from receiving God's blessings. The Bible tells us that if we don't forgive others that God cannot forgive us. That's because the door to our heart is closed. If forgiveness doesn't go out, forgiveness can't come in. But, when we choose to forgive, we open our heart so that we can receive His forgiveness and allow His love to flow freely through us. Today, I want you to remember that people will let you down, they will hurt you and disappoint you. Don't let the actions of others block your relationship with God, by holding onto unforgiveness. Instead, choose to forgive, so that you can increase your capacity to receive everything God has in store for you.
