What Do You Value
"A man's riches may ransom his life, but a poor man hears no threat."
Proverbs 13:8
There was a man with wealth beyond imagination. He loved to look at his money, gold, & precious stones. He had worked hard all his life to get this wealth, and wished to be able to take it with him when he died, that he asked God. To his surprise God answered him, and made an exception to allow him to bring one suitcase with him. He filled up a suitcase with all his gold, and a few months later he passed away. He approached the Pearly Gates and St. Peter was waiting for him and told him that he couldn't bring anything with him, but the man said that God had made an exception and he could check on it. Sure enough, St. Peter checked with God and found that He had made an exception. So he asked the man what treasure he had chosen. The man struggled to lift the suitcase onto the table, then proudly opened it up. St. Peter took one look at the gold and said, "All the things you could have brought and you brought PAVEMENT?!?" (If you don't get it, see Rev. 21:21) This humorous story is so true, as there are so many people in life that only have one thing in mind, and that is to accumulate wealth. Wealth and money will never bring you happiness in this life, but only worry and grief, as when your life is focused only on material possession they become your God's, and you begin to worship them. The Bible tells us that we can only have one God. If you find yourself today, thinking only about your money and your wealth, it is time to realize that you are headed on a path that will lead you to destruction. There is only one path that will lead to an eternal life, and that is through Jesus Christ. Worshipping your wealth and money will only lead you on the path to Hell.
