Reach Out To Others

Reach Out To Others “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: I desire mercy, not sacrifice. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Matthew 9:12-13 I believe we will begin to succeed in our own lives when the hurt and problems of others begin to matter to us. When we look at the life of Jesus, we see that he went to the people of his time, and did not wait for them to come to him. He did not hide in the palace and became a recluse. He walked where the people walked, and went to where the people were hurting. Just look at the people who surrounded Jesus. He had a tax collector, a physician, a fisherman, a woman who had been possessed with seven devils, and people from all walks of life. Some were poor and some were wealthy. We need to have this same compassion as Jesus had for others and reach out to them, no matter what their social status in life is. When we see others in trouble and difficulties in any walk of life, we need to go to them and try to assist in any way we can. It is easy to reach out to people who are in our own social structure, but as Jesus said in the scripture above, it is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. Many times this may take us out of comfort zones. We all have gifts and talents that God has given us, and we need to use these to make a difference in the lives of others. When we give freely of our time and talents, God will give freely to us. I believe our rewards in life are largely determined by the problems we solve for someone else. It is easy to look the other way as the story of the Good Samaritan teaches us, but this is not what God wants us to do. We need to ask God to give each of us the wisdom and knowledge to recognize who we need to spend time with, and use our gifts and talents to affect their lives. Robert W.
