Keep Your Fire Burning

Keep Your Fire Burning "You are the light of the world. In the same way let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:14-15 This summer, much of the southwest was plagued by wildfires that burned thousands of acres. The fire fighters reported that many times they thought the fires were contained, but fierce winds would then spread it, and then it would be out of control again. This reminds me of the life of a Christian. We should be on fire for God, and let our fire spread to the people around us, but so often we get caught up in the busyness of life that people hardly know that we are Christians. A fire that burns only in a particular area is said to be contained, but when the wind begins to blow, it can become a raging inferno. Is your fire for God contained in only a particular area, and you are keeping it to yourself, or are you letting it spread to all the ones around you? In order to spread the fire of God we have to be on fire ourselves, and then let it show and spread to the people around us. Think about yourself as a coal in the fiery presence of the Spirit of God, and if you take away this coal from the fire, it will die by itself. It needs other coals to keep it burning. But when we place it back onto the fire, it will be alive again. I would encourage each of you to keep your fire burning brightly with the people around you. Don't let your flame die. Let your friends, family, neighbors, anyone you meet know that you are on fire for God. Let them know instantly that you are a Christian. You can keep your fire burning by reading God's holy word each day, by praying daily and keeping your relationship with God first in all that you do. Fellowship with God on a daily basis will keep your flame burning brightly for all to see, and you can be a light to the world. My Daily Devotional Volume Six July 28 Robert William Brock, Jr.
