Are You A Good Steward
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Matthew 6:21
Having spent over 45 years in the financial world, I can appreciate the scripture above, and know that what you spend your money on, is a great indicator of where your heart really is. Each of us makes a choice each day, as to how we will spend the money that God gives us. We must never forget that all that we have is due to God giving it to us, and that He entrusts us to be good stewards over all our resources. How we manage and use these resources, is extremely important, as it indicates our ability to be good stewards of what God has entrusted to us, and clearly indicates where our heart is. A simple test that I have used for years when I counsel people on money, is first to determine their total annual income. This includes all the income from their jobs, and also any additional sources of income they may have. Then I ask them to break out their expenses into two categories, the first being basic living expenses, such as house payments, food, utilities, medical, clothing, etc., all the basic necessities of daily life. The second category, is all the other expenses, which are not necessary for daily life. This is the category that will tell you where your heart really is, and where your priorities really lie. Out of this category, you can determine quickly, what percentage is going to support God's work through your church, or other ministry you may have selected. Through this simple test, you will be able to determine if your heart, and priorities are where they need to be. You will find that a good portion of your treasure is being invested in God's work, if your heart is right with God.
