Elizabeth's Gifts
Elizabeth's Gifts
“A gift opens the way for the giver and ushers him into the presence of the great.”
Proverbs 18:16
I remember when our precious little granddaughter Elizabeth, who was about 5 years old came to visit several years ago, and while playing in our backyard began picking our flowers which were blooming along a path. We watched her pick several of these, and then bring them onto the porch and gave them to her grandmother. She was so proud to give these to her grandmother, who each time hugged and kissed her and thanked her. She then got a flower vase to put the flowers in, which pleased Elizabeth even more and she became even more excited. Throughout the rest of the evening Elizabeth kept going to the vase of flowers, and would smell them and ask her grandmother if she liked them. She became so focused on these flowers that she then wanted to give everyone a bouquet of flowers. She loved giving everybody flowers and having them hug and kiss her. In thinking back about this it reminded me that Jesus also wants to shower us with gifts of His love in the same way as Elizabeth did with us. In Romans 5:8 it states that “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” God made the extreme sacrifice to show His love for us, by dying on the cross for our sins. God also expects us to give others little acts of kindness as we journey along here on earth. I am sure Elizabeth will remember this in the future, when she thinks of us, as she had such a great time picking the flowers and giving them to everybody. I know that this little event meant so much to my wife and I, as we saw the joy in her eyes as she was giving the flowers to us. We can also one day see the joy in the eyes of God, when we have received His gift of salvation as He will hug us and tell us that He loves us.
