Why Are You Afraid "Then Jesus said to them, Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me." Matthew 28:10 These were the words that Jesus said to Mary Magdalene after He has risen from the grave, as all the disciples were afraid, and huddled in fear behind closed doors, filled with uncertainty and despair. I can also recall after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, people all over the country being afraid. It was reported that the psychiatrists offices were booked solid for months because people were afraid, unable to sleep and paralyzed by fear. We still live in a world that is filled with people burdened down with fear, apprehension, and anxiety. Fear is not of God, but is a weapon of the devil, as he uses this to keep us from having faith and trusting God. Throughout the Bible we see Jesus telling people to not be afraid. He told his disciples before He was crucified to not be afraid, as He would return again. He told the apostles on the boat to not be afraid of the strong winds that threatened to sink their boat, as they could rely on Him, to calm the waves. He warned people to not be afraid of having enough food, shelter or clothing, as He would provide all their needs. Our God does not want us to go through life being afraid of what might happen, but rather wants us to trust in Him for everything. God is in control, and has always been in control of everything, and His plans will be carried out in all situations of your life. You should never be afraid of what the future might hold, but have faith and trust that whatever happens is part of God's great plan for your life. You worship a risen Christ, who has broken the power of sin and death for you, and has given you an eternal life. So why be afraid?
