Give God Thanks

Give God Thanks

"You are my God, and I will give you thanks; you are my God, and I will exalt you."
Psalm 118:28

There was a man that was nailing down a loose shingle on a roof, and lost his footing and began to slip. He was working three stories above the ground, and was terrified at the thought of falling to his death. He started shouting, "God, help me, I'm falling. God, do something!" Just as he came to the edge of the roof, his belt loop caught on a nail and stopped him long enough to grab hold again. He shouted, "It's OK, God. I got caught on a nail." This simple story is how we can be, as we cry out to God, and when He answers our prayers, we say, "It's OK, God, everything seemed to work out." So often during these kinds of circumstances in our lives, we don't stop and think that God might have worked through these circumstances to come to our rescue, and give Him the credit. My point is that we need to put as much zeal into thanking God for what He has done, as we put into pleading with Him, when we are in need. We don't spend time just thanking Him when our circumstances suddenly change and get better. It is not God who we usually thank, but want to take the credit ourselves, or give it to someone else. God is the only one that knows what is going on in our lives, as He knows everything. He knows our circumstances, and is aware how our problems are resolved, and many times God is responsible for their solutions. The Bible tells us to give thanks in all things, and in all circumstances, but we so seldom give Him thanks or praise, when it is usually His intervention that so often resolves the problems we are in.
