Create Your Own Legacy
"Do not say to your neighbor, Come back later; I'll give it tomorrow."
Proverbs 3:28
Today, I want to test your memory. Who were the wealthiest people in the world 5 years ago? Who was the most valuable player in the NBA 5 years ago? Who were the last 5 Nobel Peace prize winners, or the Pulitzer Prize winners? Who were the last 5 winners of the Miss America pageant? The point is that none of us probably remember the most famous, or the best achievers for just the past 5 years. These people were the standouts in their fields, but their fame has already been forgotten, and their accomplishments have already began to fade, and their fame has diminished. Now think about a teacher that may have helped you many years ago during high school or college, during a rough time in your life, or an old friend who stood by you years ago, as you were struggling. You can probably remember someone who had a big influence in your life, as you were growing up. Maybe you had a good friend you just liked to be around as you grew up and played with every day. The lesson I want you to take away from this, is that the people who made a difference in your life, were not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, the most awards, but rather the ones who simply cared about you, and are the ones you still remember. Now take the time, to think about the people around you today, in your job, your school, your neighborhood, and to see if you are making a difference in their life. Will you be the person that they will remember in the future, as being the one that cared about them? Will your legacy be remembered?
