Our Daily Bread

Your Daily Bread

"Give us this day our daily bread."
Matthew 6:11

This scripture is in the middle of the Lord's Prayer, and almost any Christian will recognize it. The disciples had asked Jesus to tell them how they should pray, and the Lord's Prayer were the words He used to show them. This prayer should become part of our daily life, as it covers all the bases as to what we should pray for each day. Today, I want to cover why I think Jesus wants us to pray for our daily bread. This verse, I believe, reminds us that we should be dependent upon God for everything, as He is the giver of every blessing. Many people would say, "Why should I pray for my daily bread? I can take care of my own needs." However, if it wasn't for God's love and grace, you wouldn't have anything, as all that you have comes from God, and it is through Him that you have anything. Don't you think that if God did not want you to have anything, He is powerful enough to take it all away in an instant. God knows all things, so it is by His grace and His love for you, that you have what you have. It is not by your hands that you have even your daily bread, but by His hands. "Every good and perfect gift is from above." James 1:17 God wants you to be aware that everything you need comes from Him. You may think you can do all things yourself, as you are able to provide for yourself, and depend on your own ability, but it is God that allows this. God could strike you down with a sudden illness, a loss of a job, or any other thing where you would not be able to provide even your daily bread. You need to pray this prayer every day, because you need to be reminded to trust God in everything.
