Rest In Jesus

Rest In Jesus

"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
Matthew 11:29

During this past summer, Margaret and I took a short vacation, back to our home town in Kentucky. For two or three days before we left we were busy getting things ready to go. The traveling time took about two days getting there and back, and the total time we stayed in Kentucky was 4 days. It then took another day or so for us to rest up from the trip. This reminded me so much of this scripture, as few people know how to rest these days. Even on vacation, most people rush to cram in as much as they can before returning to their jobs, where they spend as much energy catching up on the work and all the other things that have piled up in their absence. Many of us need vacations just to rest from our vacations. This may be because we have been looking for rest in the wrong places. In the scripture above, Jesus said you will find rest in Him. You will also find peace and contentment in Jesus, along with happiness and joy, and so many other things that are indescribable. The hustle and bustle of this life can be overwhelming at times for many people, as there are so many things to do, and very little time to do it in. If you have Jesus in your heart, however, all of this busyness will be taken away, and replaced with the peace and comfort in knowing that God is in control. Jesus provides us with the ultimate rest, to escape the frustration and chaos of the world around us. When you rest in Him you don't have to worry about what lies ahead, as Jesus has taken care of tomorrow.
