Your Conscience
"Cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God."
Hebrews 9:14
I have always believed that one of the ways God reveals himself to us in through the conscience. I have heard our conscience described as being the light of the soul, which is what it really is. As Christian's we know what is right from wrong, and when we are tempted to do wrongful things, our conscience will convict us. We know when we lie, we know when we steal, we know when we are prideful, we know when we don't forgive, we know when we are angry, as we know when we do all things that are not pleasing to God, as our conscience will convict us during these times. Our conscience will steer us away from evil and toward good, as it can be our gentlest teacher and friend if we listen to it. However, most people don't listen to their conscience, when it convicts them, and makes them aware of what they are about to do, as it can become our worst enemies. However, your conscience can be dulled and darkened by sin, and lose its effectiveness, when you don't listen to it. When you consistently make a habit of some form of sin in your daily life, and become accustomed to it, your conscience will gradually become silent. On the other hand persistent attention to your conscience, will keep you traveling on the right paths, as God will speak to you and sharpen your conscience even more, as you will become more sensitive and attentive to His word. Your conscience can keep you out of moral and spiritual danger if you listen to what it says. Your conscience is God's lamp within your heart.
