Hope For The Future
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11
This scripture contains a wonderful promise that brings hope to the heart of every believer. The word hope is such an important word, as any man without hope has nothing to look forward to, and without a future, life would be meaningless, which King Solomon stressed in the Book of Ecclesiastes, when he said "everything is meaningless." When people think there is no hope they have no reason to do things that are right, so they lie, cheat, destroy, commit adultery, steal and even murder because there is no hope anyway. Just recently, during the horrible earthquake in Haiti, we saw what a sense of hope can do, as all the people had left, was a little hope that relief help would arrive in time to save them. This sense of hope gave them something to look forward to, and gave them the will to live. Lack of hope removes any sense of brightness for the future, and only leaves the darkness. This scripture tells us that we have a bright future because we belong to Jesus. We have hope that when Jesus comes that He will take us home to be with Him, where we will spend all eternity in Heaven. The hope of an eternal home in Heaven should inspire you to want to seek the plans that God has for you, to let Him direct your life, to seek His will in all that you do, so that you can make your future bright. We don't know when Jesus will return, but we know he is returning soon, and you need to be ready. God has given you hope to have a bright future, but you need to accept His promise today.
